If you’re a Windows user, you can remotely connect from your iPhone or iPad back to your PC using a Remote Desktop Client on your iOS device. I’ve found several pay RDC clients that are awesome, but Thinstuff iRdesktop also looks pretty promising. It’s free. Probably the biggest limitation is the level of encryption supported in this product vs. the pay products, but if you’re largely connecting from your couch, for instance, that should be less of an issue.

I was looking for a specific audio recording technique online today and ran across four great tips from The Rapid E-Learning Blog. These are simple tips on the surface, but a good reminder for anyone who does audio recording. In summary the tips are as follows:

1. Invest in a good quality microphone.

2. Maintain a consistent environment.

3. Get rid of as much ambient noise as you can.

4. Dampen the sound.

Figuring out which home studio microphone is right for your home recording needs typically boils down to two primary factors: how you plan to use the microphone and how much you can afford to spend. I recently ran across an article listing the 10 best affordable home studio microphones. While the article is a couple years old, microphone technology doesn’t change much and the choices are all still valid options for a variety of home recording functions. I currently own two of the microphones on the list and have owned two others at various points in the past.

The USB microphones on the list work great for voice over recordings, as long as you can control noise, but just be cautious of anything USB if you need multiple input sources. I have gotten burned in trying to sync sound when more than one USB source or a mixed USB and analog audio source are used.
